Having more than 20 exhibition sites spread throughout the city, housing numerous permanent collections , Museu da Cidade lacked spaces for temporary exhibitions to expand their programme. Located in the centre of Porto, Viscondes de Balsemão Palace now has three fully equipped "white box" rooms. To mark this new gallery, besides the exhibition rooms, a series of wooden pieces of furniture were conceived to promote the cohesion of the spaces. The design strategy intended to enhance existing building features (columns, portals, cornices and pediments), using distinctively new materials.
